St Georges Day 2018
GI Joe and MaC helped the County celebrate St Georges Day. Where was I - you'll find out later.......On St Georges Day they met up with one of the teams taking part in a tour of interesting parts of Newport.
One place they visited was the fire station where they saw the pole the firemen slide down......
..... the youngest Beaver was dressed up in a Firemans' uniform ....
... and Scouts had a chance to steer a fire hose. At MaC!
GI Joe's favourite activity was craftwork with V. She made special cakes for us with sparklers.
We all met up in St Thomas' Square to say our Scout Promise.
At this point County Commissioner Paul told everyone a story.
"Sid and GIJoe were in the USA a couple of weeks ago ...
... they saw the United Nations building...
..... Outside the building is a statue of St George and the Dragon. Sid had just downloaded a game called St George and the Dragon on his phone which he really enjoyed playing........
..... Sid and GIJoe saw a very famous building - 55 Central Park West, "Spook Central" from the Ghostbusters film.
Sid challenged GIJoe to a race up to the roof of the building. Sid took the North stairs and GIJoe took the South stairs.
GIJoe is smaller than Sid and by the time he got to the roof Sid was already there, sat in the middle of the roof playing his new St George and the Dragon game.
All of a sudden there was a flash of purple light and GIJoe was sure that for a moment he saw a dragon!
Then Sid was gone!!!
A few minutes later GIJoe got a bleep on his phone and there was an email from Sid.
Hi Joe.
I went through some sort of time gateway and I'm stuck in the past sitting here with a group of Native Americans from the Iroquois tribe.
There's a very odd man here wearing Wizards clothes who says he can help me to get back home.
He says for you to go home and get as many Scouts as you can to Newport next Sunday to renew their Scout Promise, as only an act of Chivalry can help me get home.
Thanks
Sid
..."
Paul told everyone that the only way to get me back was, like St George, to show some Chivalry. Chivalry is all about Honour. The Scout Promise starts 'On My Honour' and is all about being truthful and trustworthy. Paul wanted everyone to shout their Promise and to really mean it.
Paul asked one of the Scouts to help him hold up a flag of St George.
And as they opened the flag.......there I was. Returned thanks to the Chivalry of my Scout friends.
Of course, some people knew it was all an act......... but it was a good one!
