Bovington

Sid and Jade went to Bovington Tank Museum on Tiger Day

Bovington Camp in Dorset is home to the Royal Armoured Corps - the UK Army's Tank Regiments! In the middle of Bovington Camp is the Bovington Tank Museum. Through the summer you can often see tanks driving round the arena at the museum. A couple of times a year the museum holds a special event called a Tiger Day. The Highlight of the day is that one of the tanks moving around the arena is a very rare German Tiger tank.

We went into the vehicle conservation centre where all the tanks not on display are kept.

We looked outside and saw the tanks which would be in the arena later.

When we went outside, first of all we found one of the greatest American tanks.
The Sherman tank entered service in WWII and has been used by many armies since.
This M4A2 Sherman actually featured in the film,  Fury,
Of course, we had to get up close.

During WWII the Sherman was often up against the German Panzer.

 Jade liked the German Kettenkrad
She thought it would be fun to ride through mud or on the beach.
Another tank they had to see was a Churchill, named after Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

Later on a Panzer drove round the arena
With a deafening roar the tiger appeared.

In the shop you can buy models of all sorts of tanks. Sid noticed that they are made by Brickmania and Cobri, who make the Red Funnel Ferry models. You can see the range at https://tankmuseumshop.org/collections/brick-model-kits .
On the way out they went past some of the models in a display.

We also found some amazing model scenes, called dioramas, made and displayed by enthusiasts.
What a great day out!
