Sid and Jade went to the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary
Jade and I went to the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary in Sandown and saw some VERY BIG Big Cats (and some lovely little fluffy ones).
Easter Sunday started as another sunny day, with a little bit of sea mist.
While we were waiting for the Wildheart team to open the sanctuary we noticed that there was a notice asking for donations of fresh fruit and vegetables to help feed the animals - including PARSNIPS??
Hatty Came too, and soon met Zeb and Lucy, two brilliant members of the Wildheart team
Later on we met Emma and a couple of other team members.
In the park there's a HUGE bug hotel. One section is shaped like the Isle of Wight
Then we found some lions
There's a statue of the West Coast Womble
And, of course we played compare the Meerkat!
A
quick bit of Heritage stuff..... The sanctuary is located in a building
with a huge history. It started life as one of "Palmerstons' Follies", a
fort to protect help protect Portsmouth from invasion during the
Napoleonic wars. In 1940 part of the building was used in P.L.U.T.O. the
PipeLine Under The Ocean project. This was an amazing plan to supply
fuel to the troops during the invasion of Normandy. This was part of a
huge project to link oil refineries and fuel users with fixed pipelines
across the country. This is one of 3 surviving pumps used in P.L.U.T.O.
On our way out we had a few cuddles with the fluffy animals in the shop.
