Revolution 2022

Revolution 2022

I was so excited - it was Easter. Easter eggs? No.  Easter Bunny? No! Easter Egg hunt in the garden? No, No, No!!! Much better - It's Isle of Wight Revolution Easter camp for Network and Explorer Scouts.....

Hundreds of Network and Explorer Scouts gathered for the opening ceremony in the camp at the County Ground in Northwood. But it was an early night for us because we had 2 busy days ahead of us helping MaC and Julie run activity bases for the Revolutionaries.  It's been 3 years since the last Revo so everyone was determined to make up for lost opportunities.....

Day 1 saw us looking after groups mountain biking in a warm, sunny Parkhurst Forest. We couldn't see much of the action, just the start as they set off...

...and the end, when they came back.  We could tell those who took the muddy bits at speed

I don't think Camp Leader Carol came into that category!

Not everyone felt so energetic. Not when there were red squirrels to spot!

Hatty came with us and found a new friend!

Day 2 started with a walk from the clifftop car park in Lake down to Wight Water equipment hire sheds. It was a sunny morning and looking towards Sandown there was a light mist. Great - Another fantastic sunny day coming up!

Step 1: Change.

Step 2: Safety Briefing

Step 3: meet the giant paddleboards

Step 4: take them down to the water

Is the water cold? Is there an easy way to get in?

The paddleboards make great slides, so just go for it!

You didn't HAVE to fly......

...but if you did it meant you slid further....

...... or you could just slide along on your arms!

Then off for a paddle.

Progress really depended on teamwork.

As did human pyramid building

All the teams went through the same fun experience.

Some Revolutionaries couldn't stop smiling!

Even when the tide came in and started crashing against the revetment (that's the name for this type of sea wall)

Dave from Revo management is an expert kayak-er.... but then living on the Isle of Wight he should be!

When the fun was over it was time to relax

Some of the teams brought their mascots for the day. I made friends with an Otter

Of course, all the crew wanted to get in on the action!

And we all met Steve Bear

Hatty and Hatty 2 found new friends.

We did meet one more mascot at the camp closing ceremony.

Bye Revolutionaries - see you next year!
